Something from Days

"Sometimes I was you... and sometimes you were me... and that will be my dream"
A nice little pop song with a feeling of epiphany...
Small Stone guitar, Prophet 08 and Moog.

Who's Khoral Anyway

Some days ago I posted some band pics, but a special friend of mine remarked that I wasn't appearing on any of them.
Good reason for that is that I took the pictures in a hurry and there was nobody to shoot when we were playing.
So, to put a face on all the words and music here, a self-portrait, fifties-style.

One Fine Day

I began to record that the other day but couldn't bring myself to finish it...
It's a nice, uplifting song from David Byrne and Brian Eno's last "Everything that happens will happen today" album.
Life is bleak. We all know that. But I guess sometimes you feel like singing something hopeful, so there you go.
Now that I think of it, hope is never resolved, is it, so maybe it's fit that the song isn't finished either.
Ha well, in any case, it's guitars full of analog chorus and phaser, and the usual Moog and Prophet 08 culprits, and it's dedicated to those who can make hope happen, as in "Everything that happens will happen today".

Ambrosia

This is about lost opportunities... I wonder if they ever come back. I'd like to think so.

Bowie du Jour : Yassassin

Toying around with some distorsion plugins...
"Yassassin", a rather obscure song from a rather obscure Bowie album, "Lodger", which to my opinion is quite underestimated...
Guitars, big Moog bass, Prophet 08 organ and strings.

Here Comes the Band

I (very) recently formed a new live band to play my stuff... things are getting started and summer holidays are here already, so we won't play any gig until september, but work has been most satisfying.

On these pics, you can see keyboardist Jérôme H.'s Korg M50, a fine, well-designed workstation to my opinion (and I'm not a fan of workstations), my own Juno-1 (I first tried to bring the Prophet 08, but then went for a lighter, but still analog, instrument).

Jérome G. on bass, Etienne on guitar, and my own brother Romain on drums (electronic drums here for rehearsal purposes).

Let's Go Digital : Wavestation and Roland D50

... it's been a while.
Short improvisation with the Korg Wavestation and Roland D50 (or should I say, D550, the rack version).

Analogue du Jour : El Condor Pasa

Some months ago, as I was working on the "Second-Hand Sequence" compilation, I first tried to tape a rendition of Paul Simon's "El Condor Pasa".
It didn't turned out quite satisfactory and I dropped the song to work on John Cale's "Captain Hook".

Last week, I thought I'd finish it anyway, adding lots of new instrumentation and choir.
Still not quite there, but I guess it's listenable!

Gear-wise, it's another all-analogue lush ballad, with Moog bass and leads, Prophet 08 and Roland Juno-1 pads.

The Road to 1988

I began this some months ago on the Roland Juno-1 while playing some old Amiga and Atari ST games, and feeling a bit nostalgic!

Just added some Moog bass and Prophet 08 pads and arpeggiator...

Electribe the Blues : Robert Johnson Not Dead

Now here's an oldie... 2005, I think...
Apocalyptic samples from Mr Fisher at www.bagger288.com
The rest is Electribe EMX, showing that it can be pretty powerful and edgy.
Song itself is classic Robert Johnson.

Video Retrospective : Special Attraction

All right, I didn't do that one... fellow compadre Nicolas Plaire did, for the "Animal Fraud" album.

Cover du Jour : Bruce Springsteen

A very quickly recorded cover of "The Promise", a dark gem from the 70's...

Some have suggested over the years that the song was about business issues Springsteen faced at the time, but the man himself refuted that trivial theory, stating that he wasn't writing songs about lawsuits.

Indeed, what we've got here, beyond the americana, is the universal tale of loss, disillusion, human frailty, and things going somewhat wrong...

Great songwriting and beautiful lyrics.

Piano and Prophet 08 for my very humble version...
